I know it's taken me awhile, but I finally got around to blogging about my trip to Australia. The trip was insane - we were constantly busy. I took over 1500 pictures, and I want to share them all, but of course then it would take you months to read this post. Note: there are still a lot of pictures to scroll through in this post. Since I'm not a huge writer, of course I'd rather share my vacation story through pictures!
We first arrived in Sydney, then drove to the Blue Mountains about 2 hours away. We stayed there for a couple of days. We got to hike around the Blue Mountains (which is this huge lush valley, which I almost think is bigger than Yosemite). The first day we took a hike for a couple of hours and climbed up to the Three Sisters.
The next day we did a 12 km hike that climbed to a ruined castle.
We also got to visit the Jenolan Caves, which was crazy! Definitely a must see if you're ever near the Blue Mountains.
The day after that we drove to their wine country called Hunter Valley. Wine tastings are FREE. FREE!!!! Nothing in this world is FREE!! Wine in Australia is AWESOME. They have different blends called Semillon and Lombardo. I could drink that stuff all day. Anyway, wine country was great. I only wished we could've stay there longer.
We also got to feed the kangaroos and pet a koala at the zoo in Hunter Valley. Unfortunately I couldn't hug the koala, only pet it. Apparently picking them up in New South Wales is against the law. But one day, I will make it to Queensland where it is legal to hug and pick them up. Also got to see a wombat! The kangaroos look like they are blind as hell, and they just hop right up to you!
After a night in wine country, we drove back to Sydney. We got to go to the Opera at the famous Opera House, Bondi Beach, Manly Beach, the Botanical Gardens, Chinatown...
We flew to Melbourne for a couple of days, and got to explore the city there. Melbourne is such a pretty city at night. Oh, and they even have a casino.
Flew back to Sydney, and finally flew back home!
This weekend was quite tiring, didn't get much sleep at all! But it's ok - it was worth the winter wonderland up in Tahoe and spreading some holiday cheer with good friends. I didn't have time to upload all my pics, but here are a couple of photos from our gingerbread house made from scratch! BTdubs, if you plan on making a gingerbread house from scratch, start early in the morning, as it will take a lot of time...
I haven't been posting lately because:
- I really can't of anything interesting to post (so then I usually end up posting IM convos)
- I went on a vacation to Hawaii for a friend's wedding so I was gone for a little while
- I'm really not that good of a blogger, even though I work for a blogging company
So I went to Hawaii last week, that was pretty fun. I think it was my most productive trip yet...
- Went to a wedding
- Hiked Diamond Head
- Caught up with old friends
- Snorkeled in Haunauma Bay (how do you spell that?)
- Drove around the island
- Found the shrimp truck! (and I was right, I did go to Giovanni's last time next to McDonald's)
- Partied
- Shopped at the outlets
- Ate loads of local food
- Went to Matsumoto's and Waiola's twice for shave ice
- Laid out on the beach and relaxed!
I even got to hang out with the bride and groom a lot, which was nice.
I love visiting Honolulu because I get to see all my old buddies. But it gets pretty humid, I couldn't really stand laying out on the beach for too long - I had to jump in the water!
It was also my first time snorkeling - I swam out and saw all the fishes. Then I got a little bit scared of the big fish and quickly swam back to shore.
Yesterday we got to enjoy Chrissy Field with friends and good food. Unfortunately it was to say good bye to one of our good friends, Isaac. He's leaving us for the east coast. It was great to see some college people I haven't seen in awhile. Also stuffed myself full of hamburgers and hot dogs! Too bad my nose is red, probably a combination of a sun and wind burn.
